| Co-op Supports Health Foundation | | Yorkton Co-op Board of Directors announced a major donation of $50,000 towards the new digital mammography machine required by the Sunrise Health Region. This piece of equipment "will save lives" stated General Manager Bruce Thurston in a recent press release. Thurston added, "we have a responsibility to the communities in which we do business and we know that this new technology will benefit our entire trading area". In addition to the donation, Yorkton Co-op is proud to be the Presenting Sponsor of the First Charity Road Race that was held in August. More than $19,000 was generated through this Road Race, in it's inaugural year. |
| Community Builders | An important element of the Co-op's annual Business Plan is support for the many communities in our trading area. The Co-op has steadily increased the priority and level of its support over the last several years as its financial position has strengthened.
Financial contributions from governments, service clubs and businesses are an absolute necessity to build and maintain our communities but, without volunteers, nothing will happen. That's why the Co-op makes an effort to channel its support, whenever possible, to rewarding and encouraging volunteerism. Recently, the Co-op helped the Short Film and Video Festival, Big Brothers and Sisters, Parkland Victim Services and Safety Patrols in six Yorkton elementary schools reward their volunteers.
In addition to over 200 annual donations, the Co-op has supported many very special events over the years - the 1998 YRHS Band trip to the Rose Bowl, 1999 Royal Bank Cup, and the 2000 Saskatchewan Summer Games as well as National Student Leadership Conferences in Kamsack and Yorkton. In 2003, the Co-op answered the call of the East Central Health Foundation with a $50,000 donation. In 2005 and 2006, the Co-op was a major supporter of Centennial celebrations in many communities.
Co-operation builds stronger communities.
